Year 2 Lime
Lime Class Update
Dear Lime Class parents,
Welcome back! We hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer break.
It has been lovely to welcome the children back into the classroom and we have already had a busy couple of weeks! Our first topic in Year 2 is ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’ and the children have already created wonderful wax-resist artwork based upon Paul Klee’s ‘Castle and Sun’ as well as exploring the features of castles. In English, we have been reading the book ‘Prince Cinders’ which is a funny twist on Cinderella. We have looked at Place Value in maths using dienes to support our learning.
The children loved their first Forest School session of the year where they built ‘bug castles’ and drank hot chocolate around the fire pit – yum!
English: We will be writing a letter to The King from our story ‘The King Who Wouldn’t Sleep’ and asking him questions. We will be thinking carefully about the features we need to include.
Maths: We will be working on addition and subtraction and trying to use multiple methods to show our working, such as number lines, column methods and using dienes.
Science: We are continuing our learning on ‘Materials’ by identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials.
Topic: We are continuing our topic ‘‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets!’ and we will be learning all about castles around the UK.
Please continue to read with your child daily at home.
Thank you for your continued support.
The year 2 team :)
