Apple Class Update

Dear Apple class parents,

Apple class have really enjoyed our topic of Paws, claws and whiskers. We have been focusing on tigers, looking at The Tiger who came to tea as our fiction text, created wonderful tiger acrostic poems, as well as learning facts about tigers to create our fact file leaflets. We have also looked at The Tiger by Henri Rousseau and have been creating out own piece of art by creating a background collage of the jungle.
Apple class will be showing all of their wonderful tiger work, as well as their tiger dance to the school in a class assembly. We have made

Maths: In maths, Apple class have been working on the topic of measure, focusing on capacity and volume, mass and direction. They have all really enjoyed the practical element of this learning, using the water tray for capacity and using scales for mass. We will be moving onto securing our knowledge of numbers to 100, focusing on using our number bonds to help with addition and subtraction, and using our new knowledge of odd and even numbers to discuss patterns on a hundred square.

English: Apple class have been re writing The tiger who came to tea, and I was so impressed with the progress in their writing skills. They are all becoming more confident at remembering capital letters, full stops and the spellings of tricky words. We will be moving on to writing fact file leaflets about tigers, focusing on using subheadings, bullet points and pictures to create eye catching and informative leaflets.

In Phonics, we have been recapping all Phase 5 sounds, and focusing on blending sounds to sound out new words. We have also been learning some alternative sounds such as 'dge' and 'mb'.

RE - We have started learning about the religion of Judaism and how Jewish people celebrate Shabbat.

Geography - We enjoyed learning about Physical and human features of places around The UK.

Science - In science we recapped our topic of Animal groups, and will be moving onto the topic of plants, focusing on the basic structure of a flower, and deciduous and evergreen trees.

Reminder - there is a Platinum Jubilee celebration after school on Friday 27th May, more information will be going out to you shortly.

Thanks again for your continued support with your child's education and development.
